An international chess tournament is taking place in the Turkmen capital with the participation of 129 athletes from 11 countries. Young chess players aged 8, 10 and 12 from Vietnam, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Russia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are taking part in the competition. The tournament is organized jointly by the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports and the Chess Federation of Turkmenistan, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
The competition is held at the Specialized Chess and Checkers School of the Main Department of Physical Culture and Sports of Ashgabat. Over the course of three days, 12 sets of medals will be contested in three age categories for boys and girls in rapid and blitz competitions.
