President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a congratulatory message to his compatriots on the occasion of World Bicycle Day, which is celebrated on June 3. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
“I sincerely congratulate you on World Bicycle Day – an international holiday of health and inspiration!” the head of state’s message reads.
The President of Turkmenistan noted that this holiday occupies a special place in the national calendar as a symbol of the triumph of the ideals of friendship and peace, unity and solidarity of society. According to him, the physical culture, health, sports and cultural events of a mass nature significantly enhance the reputation of independent Turkmenistan as a country of health and high spirit.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the active role of the country in the international sports movement. Turkmenistan is a member of the International Olympic Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia, and contributes to strengthening international cooperation in the field of sports.
The President reminded the recent triumph of the “Arkadag” football team, which became the champion of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge League. This victory, in his opinion, testifies to the international recognition of measures to develop high-performance sports in the country.
The head of state also noted Turkmenistan's initiative to establish World Bicycle Day. At Turkmenistan's suggestion, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring June 3 World Bicycle Day.
