Diplomatic missions of Turkmenistan in Georgia, Türkiye and India held bike rides dedicated to World Bicycle Day, the International Year of Peace and Trust, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.

In Georgia, the route of the bike ride ran along the streets of Tbilisi and the ancient city of Mtskheta. Representatives of the Georgian National Cycling Federation, local athletes and coaches took part in the event.

Speaking to the participants, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Georgia Dovletmyrat Seyitmammedov emphasized the special significance of the holiday in the context of global climate change. He noted that World Bicycle Day, established by the UN on the initiative of Turkmenistan, opens up broad opportunities for sports as a messenger of friendship and promotes careful treatment of the environment.

A similar event was held in Türkiye on a special bike path on the shore of Lake Eymir near Ankara. Ambassador Mekan Ishangulyev noted that the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution on the establishment of World Bicycle Day at the initiative of Turkmenistan demonstrates the high assessment by the world community of the country's efforts to develop sports and form an ecological culture of society. The bike ride was attended by employees of the diplomatic mission, representatives of the Turkmen diaspora, Turkish media and students.

In New Delhi, Turkmen students studying in Indian universities took part in the bike ride along with diplomats. At the end of the event, educational talks were held for the youth about significant events related to the International Year of Peace and Trust and the anniversary of Turkmen neutrality.

World Bicycle Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2018 on the initiative of Turkmenistan. The holiday is aimed at promoting the bicycle as an inexpensive and reliable mode of transport that helps protect the environment and maintain public health.
